Those of you that have been following our site for at least the last year, know how much I love audio products. Having portable speakers that can cater to your life style is right up there with battery power back-ups in my book. So every chance I can get to personally give an audio product a test drive, I am all over it.
I was able to get my grubby little paws on a Satechi Bluetooth pocket speaker. The speaker is small, compact and has more little additions added to it than I thought was possible. In the box you get the Satechi BT Wireless Pocket Speaker, a charging cable and a really nice black carrying ouch for travel and protection. Oh, and of course the user manual. Let’s get the specs out-of-the-way.

On to more important matters. On the speaker you will find your charging port, which is a mini USB plug and is included. Around the edges of the speaker you find various buttons. You have your basic music player functions like play, pause, track forward and previous track. If you press and hold the forward or reverse buttons you have full control over your sounds volume. Making it easy to control calls and music without ever having to touch your device.
On the side of the speaker you have access to a standard 3.5 headphone jack. This addition is primarily added so you can daisy chain another set of speakers to it. Giving you the ability to connect other portable speakers that may not support Bluetooth. On the underside of the unit is a small 3.5mm headphone cord, which makes it possible to directly connect the speaker to your phone or MP3 player.
 
If you are looking for a mood music speaker or portable speaker phone speaker, it does its job well.
The Good
I used the speaker on and off for a about 3 weeks. I never had any audio issues nor did it ever disconnect from my device. It is small and lightweight, making it easy to toss in your pocket or laptop bag. The various controls on the speaker lets me keep my device in my pocket or some place near by without having to grab my device to change tracks, answer calls ect. The design is futuristic and reminds me of something out of a Sci-Fi movie. Satechi put some time into making this more than just another Bluetooth speaker unit, all the small little extras really help to push this speaker to the top of my list for small portable audio products.
The Bad
When you get a phone call your music stops playing and your phone will ring. That isn’t the bad part, that is to be expected. However, the Bluetooth speaker doesn’t play your selected ringtone, instead it plays its own odd little sounding tone. It isn’t necessarily bad, since it works. It just surprised me the first time a call came through.
Overall thoughts
If you are looking for something to offer more sound than the speaker on your phone does, this little guy will do it. It should work just fine for conference calls and meetings. If you are looking to create a stir and be heard in another room, you should pass this one up. The price tag puts it in the affordable range. If it was nothing more than a Bluetooth speaker unit we would suggest you pass on it. Since it incorporates so many additional functions and connectivity options, it is a great value.
