Motorola has confirmed, via Twitter, that the new AT&T phone, the Atrix HD will have a locked bootloader, it will be locked and signed.
But Motorola has also said that it was done to meet requirements, and that they will offer a tool to unlock it, stating that it’s their “goal to provide a way to unlock the bootloaders on our devices”.
If Motorola makes it easy to unlock, there will be no problem, but with the phone’s bootloader locked and signed it will be impossible to make any modifications to the kernel so custom ROMs like CyanogenMod or MIUI will have trouble getting in, at least until Motorola provides the necessary tools. Let’s hope they do it fast enough.
