An image of a new Samsung phone called Jasper (SCH-I200) has surfaced wearing Verizon and 4G LTE logos (actually, that’s 2 Verizon logos, both in front and back). The tweet also glanced at some of the device’s features including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 (although the speed wasn’t mentioned), LTE connectivity, a WVGA (800 x 480) screen and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The only odd thing about this phone are the capacitive buttons, it doesn’t have Samsung’s 3 button layout swapping them for the classic 4 button row seen in most Samsung phones in the US. Those buttons are designed for ICS, taking out the search button, putting in the multitasking button and an ICS redesigned menu key. It’s not a bad choice if you’re going with physical buttons.
The overall design of the phone is not like Samsung’s new line of design but closer to the old style of mid-range phones, and I’m sorry to say but that phone doesn’t look very attractive at all. Samsung has been on a roll with styles and designs, but this one just doesn’t fit the bill to what they are capable of creating.
We don’t know the pricing or availability for this phone, but I can’t think of it going anywhere above $50, specially for that screen these days.
