Casio has recently announced four new tablets that they will produce to help bring information from the show floor to the stock room and much more. It will be the V-T/N500 series and has some pretty great potential to help leverage Android, the store using it and much more. All four models are said to be sporting Android 4.0, a 10.1-inch screen and battery life of up to 12 hours. Inside they will be using a dual-core TI OMAP4460 clocked at 1.5GHz and have NFC built -in and ready to rock. Another selling point to help get these in the hands of retailers across the nation is the durability factor. The new slates will be dust proof, splash resistant and able to fall three feet and survive.
“As the Android platform matures, we are seeing an ever-increasing level of sophistication in terms of both software and hardware. The new hardware provides potentially endless possibilities for the retailer, and is tough enough to survive the rigours of the retail business environment,” said Guy Boxall, senior product marketing manager at Casio.
We can see huge potential in multiple retail locations for this type of device. It would give Best Buy floor associates the ability to check inventory remotely, share product demo videos or demo a DLNA connected TV. With all the wonders of NFC on board it can offer up a whole new sales agent to customer experience from various tags on the show floor and potentially give sales reps a way to show a comparison of products without walking the customer back and forth across the floor. It really would be a great device and tool to have.  We won’t even go into the possibilities of closing a sale and processing the transaction through a mobile payment on the tablet without having to go to a long line at a register.
Chances of these tablets ever making a public appearance are slim. They are aimed at retail businesses for now, but who knows, maybe Casio will push out a public model at some point.
