We have all seen the rumored 5-inch phablet looking device that has been floating around by HTC. The device has popped up a number of times in images, never with the device turned on that I recall though. Talks suggested that it might be the HTC One X+, but that was somewhat squashed when the One X+ specs were leaked out. The 5-inch mega device still didn’t have a name and wasn’t announced during HTC’s event last week. So what the heck is it? If the tipster is correct, this will be, or is the design, of the Goggle Nexus 5, which is HTC’s offering back into the Nexus line.
They tip specs at sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chip, 1080p display, 2,500mAh battery, LTE connectivity, up to 64GB’s of internal storage, a 12MP rear camera and 2 MP from shooter.
All of that sounds doable. LG has a 13MP camera in the Optimus G along with the quad-core S4 Pro and has also been chatted up as a Nexus offering from LG. Internal memory capacities been increasing over time and 64GB internal for a purchase choice is possible. The tipster claims he has this info on a reliable source from an HTC employee. While we would love to believe this, we still have to put it in the rumor bin for now. A lot of what the next Nexus device is going to be will come down to how Google plays their cards this year. Traditionally, the Nexus line isn’t the highest-end spec’d device on the market, but being a pure Google experience device, it rocks the socks off other devices with higher spec’s on paper. Not to mention timely updates from Google. We are still hoping that the previous information of there being multiple Nexus offerings this year to be true. Not everyone likes Samsung, or HTC, or LG. Offering slightly different spec’s with same software from Google could prove to be a big move for the search giant and for the consumers.
