Samsung has begun releasing the highly desired Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) update to the Samsung Galaxy S III in Europe. First on the list is Poland. Samsung even confirmed the roll out for everyone. Of course the roll out will be gradual and based on carrier approval and tweaking. Which means that they can’t, or won’t, be able to offer a timeline for when your market and device will see the official update. On the bight side though, Samsung said the Galaxy S III would see Jelly Bean in October, so they beat out their original target date.
We have seen a few leaks for a Jelly Bean update floating around for the T-Mobile Galaxy S III. From what we have heard from people playing about with it, it is pretty much ready to go. Let’s hope T-Mobile doesn’t drag their feet and pushes it out as soon as it is good to go and not wait around.
Samsung also offered up a list of devices the will ‘soon’ see Jelly Bean updates as well.
- Galaxy Tab 2.7.0
- Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
- Galaxy Note 10.1
- Galaxy S II
- Galaxy Note
- Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
- Galaxy SÂ Advance
- Galaxy S II LTE
- Galaxy Music
- Galaxy Chat
- Galaxy Ace 2
- Galaxy Beam
- Galaxy Ace Plus
- Galaxy Mini II
- Galaxy S Duos
We would imagine that the updates will start to trickle out sometime after the Note II launches though. Historically, updates to devices don’t get push out before a new device that sports it stock gets into the wild. Gives customers more incentive to update. At least, here in the states anyways.
There is one statement that I don’t quite understand though. They mention that the update for the S III will make other improvements to current Samsung software, especially the Pop Up Play feature. Adding in the ability to resize the video window. I just got a T-Mobile S III and I can already do that. Yes, I am stock out of the box with nothing done to it yet. Looks like I have some investigating to do.
