[Review] Fly Grip…Do more with one hand

First off I want to thank the guys (and gals) over at FlyGrip for giving me a chance to test out one. Texting on a 4.5″ smartphone with one hand requires a bit of effort, especially if you have small hands like me. The FlyGrip completely eliminates the need for two hands and allows you to multitask with a comfortable and secure grip. If you have ever found yourself fumbling around with your device while texting, browsing, taking pictures etc, then this might be the right accessory for you.

Form Factor

FlyGrip’s are ergonomically designed to fit perfectly around your fingers. You get a quick and comfortable grip from the spring-loaded top which allows your thumb a full range of motion to navigate. The FlyGrip is also super slim coming in at only 1/4″ closed and adds very little bulk to the phone. The FlyGrip is engineered to double as kickstand in both portrait and landscape angles as well for a full phone/tablet solution depending on where e you stick it to your device.

Installation

The FlyGrip is held on your device by a super adhesive tape that comes with your FlyGrip. It’s very easy to install and won’t mess up your case if, and when, you decide to take it off. The best thing is FlyGrip throws an extra piece of the adhesive tape in the box in case you want to change out cases or even devices. If you change phones as often as I do then you will probably need a few extra adhesive strips which you can pick up on FlyGrips website for $2.49 (3pack)

It is pretty dummy proof to install. Michael over at FlyGrip did a masterful job of demonstrating the proper method of installation. It will give you an idea of how it goes on and how it works. Remember though, he makes an accessory product, so his mention of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus S II is just a little comical, don’t be to hard on the guy.

Whats in the Box

  • Fly Grip
  • Alcahol Pad
  • Adhesive strips
  • Soft spacers

Each Flygrip comes with a free case as well as a choice between a wide range of colors, as you can see below. Ranging from purple to yellow to your traditional black and white. Giving you a choice to help you match the color of your device, case or personality.

There are also 3 sizes to choose from (S,M,L). To choose your size, FlyGrip has come up with a pretty solid way of figuring out which would work best for you.

To figure out which size works best for you, use this simple size test. Put a penny vertically between your middle and ring finger:

·         Small will fit fingers that are up to 3/8″ thick. If your fingertip reaches the mouth of President Lincoln on a penny, then small is the best size for you.

·         Medium is for fingers 5/8″ thick. If your fingertip reaches the top of President Lincoln’s head on a penny, medium is your size.

·         Large is for fingers that are up to 3/4″ thick. Your fingertip almost covers the top of the penny.

Final Thoughts

Overall I love my FlyGrip and couldn’t do without it now. They have saved my device numerous times from hitting the pavement. The construction is solid and I don’t feel like I’m going to drop my phone anymore while trying to do my text message/cooking maneuver. You don’t really think about how much effort you put into keeping that phone in the upright position until you are able to “one hand it”. This is definitely a great accessory for all ranges because my mom has fallen in love with them also.
