Dragon (Hands-free Assistant) updates to V3.0, includes new features and no Brainers

Nuance Communications has pushed a new update out today to their Dragon (Hands-Free Assistant application. Moving it to version 3.0 and bringing with it some much-needed new features and fixes. The new additions include the ability to share your location on a map with friends or ask them for their location, regardless if they use Dragon or not. Also there is the ability to dial into conferences and meetings from calendar events.

What made me kind of laugh, and where the ‘no brainer’ title came from was the ability to reply to incoming text messages and being able to your Bluetooth device. I remember trying out Dragon when it first came around, but it quickly moved to the uninstall list. We might just give it a go with the latest update.

Anyone out there using the app previously out there? What have your thoughts been. Have you moved on to Google Now and all the standard built-in voice abilities of our device? I have to be completely honest here, I only talk to Google Now to show it to people. I still haven’t been able to fully commit to voice actions and controls at all.

Just ask Dragon, “Where’s John?” and with his permission, Dragon will respond with a map showing his location.

 

• ·        Calendar Call Assistant:  Dragon now automatically dials you into any call set in a calendar appointment – intelligently anticipating your needs.  Dragon knows when you have a scheduled call coming up, and shortly beforehand will ask if you would like to be dialed in – if so, a simple tap gets you connected.  So whether you need to dial into a conference bridge with a long passcode or a reminder to call your mother on her birthday, Dragon both reminds and makes the call for you – delivering a mobile personal assistant experience that transcends work, life and play.

 

• ·        End-to-End Hands-Free Text Messaging:  Dragon already lets you dictate text messages to contacts completely hands free, and with these latest updates, it now reads incoming text messages aloud with the ability to respond, no hands required.  Dragon dictates your message and delivers it for you.
