Telenav adding 3D features to Scout for Phones

Telenav Scout update
Telenav announced today that it will be adding updates to its free Scout app. Some of these new features include 3D landmarks and buildings along with improvements to traffic content and user interface fixes.

Telenav’s 3D enhancements were developed using screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO), normally used in creating 3D realistic graphics in video games. Scout will add 3D buildings and landmarks in metropolitan areas. Buildings and landmarks in the area are changed to realistic, intuitive graphics, giving drivers a better understanding of their environment.

The update will also give drivers the ability to report accidents, road hazards, traffic jams and police presence. The driver’s infomation is then added into its traffic and congestion database so other Scout users will be notified about possible delays.

The user interface improvements include prompt information on alternate routes and upcoming traffic. Drivers will also be able to see traffic flow information, showing traffic at a red, yellow or green status.

The current Scout for Android app is available for free in Google Play, but the 3D building and landmark updates are expected to surface by the end of the year.
