A new look at the upcoming Chrome OS Notification Center, Unified Messaging and API Info

Last week we showed you guys something pretty awesome and promising for the Google Chrome OS, Chromium. It was shared by François Beaufort and showed a notification center pop-up that would display rich notifications on the screen of your Chromebook, or Chrome OS sporting device. Mr. Beaufort has jumped into the notification center and it looks like he has it up and running.

It definitely looks like Google Now cards, in our opinion anyways. As you can see in the screenshot, it is popping up notifications for missed calls, Google+, Emails and chat. It looks like it is really going to bring your life together in on sweet little section on your Chromebook. We are pretty excited to see it finally go full steam.

There is one more thing to look at though. If you look to the bottom left where the various apps are pinned to the launcher, you might see an unfamiliar icon. It looks like 4 message bubbles in Google colors. He tosses out that he doesn’t know what it is with a little wink smiley face. Which means he does know what it is. We can take a stab at what it is though. It looks like it will be the Messenger service that we have available on Google+. Wouldn’t that be amazing?? We might finally be able  use G+ Messenger on your Chromebook and not just on your phone or tablet. Yes, you can emulate Android and use it now, but that isn’t the same.

François edited his post a little after midnight last night, adding in a new link for the developers out there. The link leads you The Chromium Project page and goes over all the details on how to use the API to create your own custom notifications. We are sure more than a few developers out there will be spending a few hours tinkering with it.
