OK, nobody ever accused me of being the most “mature” adult in these United States – but I was on a mission. I was hell-bent on finding a way to view some comics on my EVO. No, I don’t mean the Marmaduke or Garfield variety — more along the lines of stylized, artistic action comics. You know – Marvel, DC Comics, that type of thing.
I thought to myself, “Hey! I have Flash Player 10.1 on my EVO now with Froyo! I can use the same comic viewer that Marvel uses on their website!” Yeah – uh, not so much. I was able to navigate to the site with the browser, but I wasn’t able to get a comic to open very effectively. I know that “that phone which shall not be named” has an app from Marvel which allows them to do this. Hopefully Marvel wises up and ships one to Android as well.
But all is not lost! We are in luck, People. I was able to stumble upon the Droid Comic Viewer (aka ACV for Android Comic Viewer) by Robot Comics. It is a slick little app which works magically and can be downloaded FREE within the Android Market. They also have quite a few comics to download for free as well as some that you can download for a nominal fee.
One of the strips I read was entitled, “When SysAdmins Ruled the Earth” by Cory Doctorow. Excellent short story and fantastic drawings. I was definitely impressed by the features of this free application. Top-notch stuff.
