Not to long ago, Google stepped in and introduced App Inventor. It was designed to help even the most basic user create their very own application and install it directly to their Android device. Â As soon as the new web based builder was launched, Google was flooded with requests to use it. I know it took them almost a month to finally get to my request, so I know there was a lot of interest. As with any new program there is somewhat of a learning curve. Many people were still unsure of how to use the new tool. Some of the leading developers and trainers weren’t even sure what to do with it.
That all recently changed when a few amazing people published a few books on how to actually use App Inventor. One of the more recent publications was by Jason Tyler. His book is titled, “App Inventor for Android: Build Your Own Apps – No Experience Required” Pretty straight forward and not hard to forget.
Jason takes you on a tour of App Inventor over a total of 426 pages with photos and easy to understand language. You start out with the basics, like setting everything up and learning some basic terminology. As you progress in building your first application you can’t help but start to understand how Android works. By the time you are finished with the book you will have walked through building 8 applications in App Inventor. You should easily be able to manipulate those 8 apps into your own look and feel versions and be well on your way to building your own unique apps.
As an added bonus, Jason wasn’t able to get everything he wanted into the book. The missing chapter is available to those that purchase the book and gives you a deeper look into some interesting abilities.
How can you win a free copy of the book??
Well, I thought long and hard about how to give this book away to a lucky reader. The typical contest would be something along the lines of what would you build… Too easy though, and too boring. Besides, I’d hate to see your idea get made before you had a chance to make it.
So, in an effort to make things a little different and a little more interesting, Bryce Walters and I came up with something from far left field. Something non Android related. Something more interesting to answer. Here are the rules –
- Contest starts June 2nd and will run until June 9th – 1 Week
- Any submissions after midnight CST on June 9th will be disqualified.
- Tweet if possible, but not required.
- Answer the following question in the comments below.
- You may only post once, so make it good.
The question is – If you had the chance to redo one thing in your life, what would it be, and what would you do differently?
Good luck to everyone that wants a chance to win a copy of this awesome book.
Once this contest is all said and done someone will be walking away with a great chance to learn and build their dreams.
