Beats Makes Its Split From HTC Official With Final 25% Buyback

beatsLast month, we heard rumours that Beats Electronics were considering buying out the last 25% stake that HTC has of their company, and today they’ve made that official; HTC made an announcement on their investor site that Beats would be buying out that 25% for $265 million, ending their intriguing, but ultimately disappointing partnership.

The HTC and Beats partnership will probably be best remembered for their cumulative efforts to create the HTC One with HTC’s proprietary BoomSound. While in itself an amazingly impressive feature, it failed to seal the deal with potential buyers as HTC no doubt expected it to. And now with HTC showing signs of impending dark times, it’s not surprising that Beats saw fit to abandon the deal that never really benefited either party, though it may end up giving HTC a bit of a leg up with the cash from the buyback.

What do you think about the ending of the Beats/HTC partnership: do you think they got the potential out of the time they spent together? Let us know what you think in the comments.
