In the blink of an eye: Xiaomi Redmi Note sold 10,000 units in just one Second

Xiaomi Redmi NoteMany things take just one second: you could sneeze, you can probably open a webpage in one second, or you might even blink a few times. Well, in that same span of time, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has managed to sell 10,000 of its latest smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note, in Taiwan. Understandably, people who missed out were livid, saying their browser hadn’t even loaded the page, but this isn’t the first time that Xiaomi has tried something like this; just a few months ago in March, Xiaomi sold 100,000 of the Redmi Note in 34 minutes in its native China.

So why has this Xiaomi Redmi Note got the Asian region all bananas for it? A look at the spec sheet doesn’t give us too much indication: an octacore MediaTek processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 5.5-inch 720p display all seem very normal, and add in a 13MP camera and a 3,200 mAh battery, the Redmi Note seems positively pedestrian. But then comes the price: Xiaomi is asking for $4,999 Taiwan Dollars, which roughly equates to $167 USD. In case you’re wondering, that’s less than half the price of the all-new OnePlus One and roughly the same price of the budget Motorola Moto G; not bad at all, wouldn’t you say? Presumably Xiaomi will attempt another so-called ‘hunger marketing’ event in the near future, so make sure you don’t blink or you might miss out.
