The Huawei Watch is a beautiful piece of design and engineering – that much is for sure. But how much would you be willing to pay for one?
$250? $500? How about $1000? If you’re balking at the thought of a $1000 Android Wear device, you might not be happy to hear that the cost of the Huawei Watch is rumoured to be somewhere in that ballpark. If we look at what we know from MWC 2015 so far, the device is incredibly intricate (130 components assembled in 160 steps), has a circular AMOLED display shielded by a sapphire crystal screen, and comes with a stainless steel housing. We’re currently not too sure what the innards of the Watch are, but we know it runs Android Wear and will ship with 40 watch faces made by Huawei themselves. Function-wise, we’re also not expecting anything groundbreaking beyond what other Android Wear devices are currently capable of. But is that worth $1000?
Granted, in the world of premium watches, $1000 is not even close to the most expensive timepiece around. However in the world of Android Wear devices, I’m not entirely sure we’re ready for something that is four times more expensive than the current poster boy, the Moto 360. What do you think – is $1000 too much for a smartwatch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
