This morning we ran a story about a rumor that Samsung might be cooking up a phone/tablet hybrid system that would allow you to plop you new Nexus device inside a tablet to get a full screen experience. The idea really took off and people are really excited to see something like that happen. What I didn’t realize at the time is that there is already a product achieves this very ingenious idea and is made by a very reputable company.
ASUS, one of the leading tablet manufacturers out right now, has a product available called a Padfone. It offers an Android handset that slips into a compartment on the back of a tablet to give you the convenience of a phone  and the enjoyment of a tablet when you need it most. I can’t believe a product like this slipped under my radar.
The Padfone is stated to have a dual-core Tegra 2 chip at its core clocked at 1Ghz and 1 GB of RAM. The tablet part is said to be sporting Android 3.0 and the detachable phone is likely sporting Android 2.3. The tablet shows off a 10.1 inch screen while the phone offers you a 4.3 inch screen. I am in love. You have to see this thing in action to really see how awesome it really is. Check out the video and pictures below.
There is still no release date or price listed anywhere that I can find. Since there isn’t any official announcement for release, I can imagine that ASUS might be waiting to dump Ice Cream Sandwich on the device to complete the experience. If this device can perform they way I think it can, I think I might have just found the next device I will be saving up for. Check out more information at ASUS.com and GSMarena for detailed specs.
