This is a pretty niche topic, and one day late, but better late than never!
Doors Open is a two-day event taking place in Toronto this weekend where around 150 businesses of all types throw open their doors to the public for special tours. From their site:
City of Toronto is proud to present the annual Doors Open Toronto — one weekend, once a year — when 150 buildings of architectural, historic, cultural and social significance open their doors to the public for a city-wide celebration.
The program allows visitors free access to properties that are either not usually open to the public, or would normally charge an entrance fee. Many locations have organized guided tours, displays and activities to enrich the visitor experience.
While other cities and towns in the area have their own Doors Open events throughout the year, Toronto’s is definitely the biggest and most popular. New this year as well is an open data initiative by the city of Toronto, granting royalty-free access to their data sets, which is where the Doors Open data was culled from. Given the popularity of smartphones, a lot of attention has been given to DO iPhone apps this past week, which makes me so much more excited that Android has an app now as well.
The Doors Open app will help you find your way around Doors open Toronto. Listing all locations opening hour’s phone numbers and transports options it’s your companion while experiencing the open door. Use search to refine your results by district or building stream lining to map directions and twitter share.
