Looks like there is an update rolling out to the Droid Turbo today. The update carries a 21.44.8.en.US version number along with it and weighs in at a hefty 235.2MBs. Unfortunately it isn’t a surprise Android 5.0 Lollipop push. Instead it is a pre-lollipop update that is apparently getting the device ready for the update in the future.
- Prepares your device for the new Advanced Calling 1.0 feature, which allows you to use voice and data simultaneously.
- Email attached moved to top for easier viewing.
- Device stability fixes/security updates.
I took a look at what Verizon is talking about with the Advanced Calling 1.0 feature to find out that it brings HD voice and video calling to the device. You can find out details on it at Verizon. It makes me laugh a little though as there are all kinds of little catches to it. Like video calling is not available on all Advanced Calling 1.0 devices, it is incompatible with Ringback Tones, Slacker Radio Tones, and Caller Name ID with more incompatible features for business and government accounts. Oh, and for you to notice any difference with it both parties have to have a HD Voice-enabled phone on Verizon’s network. Those devices are the Droid Turbo, LG G3, Galaxy S5, LG G2, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini and both new iPhones. However, the video call aspect is incompatible with the iPhones.
