The number of times I’ve sat back and thought “Why isn’t there an Android gaming console yet“.  Even more so when I plugged in the T-Mobile G2x from LG into my big screen TV via the HDMI connector and played Angry Birds and other games in 52″ of LED glory.  I have my Sony Blueray with Google TV connected and it’s a cool media device, but from it’s performance, I can’t see it being good for gaming.  But why not?  why didn’t they put a descent GPU inside that could handle gaming, supply a game control and you instantly have an all in one home media, game touting, web surfing, super device.
A little after a week of thinking this, a company called Envisions decided to announce the EVO 2 or Gamebox as it’s also know to the world. Â The Evo 2 is not just another Google TV device, in fact, It’s not even going to be using the Google TV platform, but instead will be running the latest Android OS available. Â Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Â I’m not really sure! Â As the Google TV platform get’s merged into the main-stream Android source code it may become hard to tell the difference, and Google TV may just becomes another version of Android and any device can do what Google TV can do. Â who knows!
Anyway, Back on track with the Envision Evo 2 (gamebox) Android gaming console.  The paper specifications of the Evo 2 are impressive and they have used the obvious choice for an Android based gaming device, the NVidia Tegra platform.  The rest of the specifications are listed below, but the device will feature a HDMI connector, and the usual array of connectivity options like WiFi, Ethernet and Bluetooth.  It will be interesting to see what they do with storage.  I expect there is a hard drive inside the box as they Evo 2 can also be used as a media storage device.
What does the Evo 2 look like?
