Facebook pulls a Twitter/Google, adds in hashtags for Users

Hashtags on Facebook
Oh hey, look Facebook decided hashtags were a good idea after all. Facebook announced today that they are bringing hashtags to their users to add context to a post. They say hashtags have become “a vital part of popular culture”. Since many users have been using them in their posts out of habits, they thought it was a good time to make them available.

Granted, adding in a hashtag (#Android) now those tags will actually be clickable and link you into others conversing and using the same tag.

The new feature means Facebook users can now:

  • Search for a specific hashtag from your search bar. For example, #Wimbledon2013, #FathersDay or #Wedding.

  • Click on hashtags that originate on other services, such as Instagram.

  • Compose posts directly from the hashtag feed and search results.

Not like hashtags are anything new to users of Twitter or Google+. Or hell, even Instagram, which Facebook acquired. It is still fun to watch a social netwrk that is still as large as Facebook be the last to adopt something that might seem trivial to some, but is a vital part of social networking.
