Pre-Order customers of the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7″ have stared to not only see confirmation of shipping, but some are even already getting their hands on the device. The list is probably pretty long, so don’t worry if you haven’t seen yours just yet. Interestingly enough there is already a system update that is landing on the second generation Kindle Fire and also one for the new Kindle Fire HD 7″.
Your device will automatically download and apply the update if it has an internet connection, so there shouldn’t be any leg work needed by you at all. There are manual update instructions available along with the like to download the update file for both new updates. The update out for the 2nd generation Kindle Fire moves the device system version to 10.1.3. The good folks at XDA have already tried flashing the file over to the 1st generation Kindle Fire, but are having no luck. Looks like a lot has changes inside the 2nd gen version.
The Kindle Fire HD 7″ update moves the system software up to version 7.1.5. Again, the XDA boys are hard at work testing things out, but so far no luck putting this update on the 1st gen device. We don’t see any comments on the HD file being tried on the 2nd gen 7″ Fire though. Maybe someone will give that a shot when they have some time.
For the rest of you guys out there, you can check your Fire’s system software by swiping down from the top of the screen, then tap
More, then tap
Device and then tap
About. Â If your system software is lower than those listed, you will probably want to go ahead and update. That should be easily done by swiping down from the top of the screen and tap
Sync. If you don’t get any prompt or nothing happens at all, then follow the links below to your specific device. They offer up the file you need to download and some pretty straight forward instructions to manually push the update through.

As for what each update brings, well, they don’t offer up a change log that we could find. We would assume some bug fixes or other minor changes that were discovered after production. Happy updating.
