Game Review: Temple Run Oz

temple run the great and powerful oz

Temple Run and the new movie Oz the Great and Powerful, have come together in a new game. They have taken what we love about Temple Run, and slapped the movie over it. I must say, it is pretty awesome. The graphics seem to have gotten better, even from only being a month after the release of Temple Run 2.

When you first start the game, you go through the usual tutorial that each Temple Run has had. Swipe up, swipe down, rotation  it is all there. This time you are being chased around by these gargoyles, instead of monkeys or huge gorillas. You run your way down the familiar yellow brick road, and it seemed to me that the gameplay was a little slower than the other two games. I do not think that is a bad thing. It made it little more fun in my eyes. Just like the second Temple Run, there are the green gems and special power-ups that you can leap for. Only this time, you do not know what you are going to get. The times I have been playing it, I have gotten the flying monkey power-up, the coin magnet, and the shield. The shield and magnet are nothing new, but the flying monkey was a kind of funny little surprise  The monkey swoops in and guides you for a short amount of time. You also get use of the hot air balloon that is used in the movie. As you are running, you see it in the distance, then you turn the corner and there it is. You simply leap into it and now you must guide it through a field of ice with tall crystals. Nice little addition to the game.

I guess my only real complaint is the dreaded back button integration.  We had this when Temple Run 2 came out. You cannot back out of the game, and you have to hit your home button to exit it. This was fixed in the second Temple Run with an update, so hopefully they do the same with this version. The graphics are excellent, and the game play is smooth. It does cost a dollar in the Play Store, but that is not that bad. If you love Temple Run, I would definitely pay to get the game. Check out my quick video review below. Let us know what you guys thought of it.
