Google Addressing Android Fragmentation

Android Fragmentation

Getting left behind sucks. There is no other way to put it. It can be felt with most Android powered phones. You buy a phone and a few weeks later you hear about a new version of Android that you won’t get for a long time. Google knows of the issue and is hard at work on it. Word on the street is that Google will be offering their core apps and components from the Market (see: Google Maps). This way they can offer updates to these apps without having the user upgrade the core of Android. Engadget stresses the word “components” as also being upgradeable. This is great news for Android users as a whole, no need to wait for carriers to send out updates.
