Android 5.1 Lollipop updates have been making appearance in various places, like on Android One devices. While the OS update is very much real, Google didn’t go on and on about what it brought to users though. That changed today as the Official Android Blog put up some details about it.
Like most updates Android 5.1 Lollipop brings in stability and performance improvements. Although Google wasn’t very forthcoming about exactly what changed to bring that about. The update also brings in support for multiple SIM cards. Not a huge deal for most of those users in the US, but in other locales where devices often have dual-sim slots, it is great news.
Device Protection also comes along for the ride in this update. This allows your device to remained locked until you sign in with your Google account. Which isn’t a huge deal, except for the fact that the device remains locked even if someone factory resets your device. That is a pretty big deal really.
Users will also find HD Voice functionality as a standard part of the OS. This is particularly useful with the Nexus 6 on T-Mobile and for the impending launch on Verizon. Finally, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update also provides additional enhancements like the ability to join Wi-Fi networks and control your paired Bluetooth devices directly from the Quick Settings panel.
