Google finally gets China’s approval for Motorola Mobility purchase, on one Condition

Some of you may have forgotten all about Google and their acquisition of Motorola Mobility.  I know I did for a while. Even though they announced it last August, it has been held up waiting on China to approve  the purchase. That day has finally come, but not without one condition.

That one condition is a billion dollars…. Just kidding. Actually their condition isn’t all that outlandish. They are merely requesting that Google keeps Android free to all manufacturers for no less than 5 years. The request should easily be accepted by Google. The Chinese just want to make sure that the acquisition doesn’t turn into a monopoly of sorts. Not that it would happen with out a huge battle, if it ever did.

Both Google and Motorola have stated that operation on both sides wouldn’t change in the slightest after the purchase. Google main reason for the acquisition is not to have a manufacturer in their hip pocket, but more so they have addition patents to fight off the sue happy characters of the world. Makes sense really. Especially with Apple out there getting device shipments halted.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Would you love to see Google use Motorola to make unlocked devices for the world? Should Google’s next step be purchasing a carrier like T-Mobile and making the world a more connected place? It should be a very interesting next five years for everyone involved.
