While HTC said they would miss the 90 day goal for their devices to be updated to Lollipop, they certainly came closer than some have in timely updates in the past. The US is a harder monster to wrangle than most locales since each carrier has to move the update through their own quality checks and software additions prior to release. Sprint seems to be on the short list of the update stick as we now hear that their versions of the HTC One M8 are getting Lollipop updates starting today.
Mix that with the fact that the Lollipop update started rolling out for the HTC One M7 with Sprint yesterday and you have quite a bit to look forward to this weekend. The look and feel won’t vary all that much from what you are used to as it still brings in Sense 6, but you will notice notifications on your lockscreen, better notification controls, new quick toggles, screen pinnng, and the new app switcher. They also removed the Lumen toolbar from the device, which might make a few users rather happy.
The push updates the HTC One M8 to version 4.20.651.10 and has begun rolling out today, according to Sprint‘s support page. You can expect it to go out in stages, so not everyone will see it today. You can always head into setting and check for updates just to make sure. If you do see it, be sure you have well over 50% battery life remaining, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time to wait for the download and installation of the update.
