This morning, at least stateside, HTC announced the HTC One M9. Previous leaks were all pretty spot on. The new flagship from the Taiwanese manufacturer carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core 64-bit processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB on board storage, Micro SD card slot, a 5-inch 1080p display and a 20MP camera and is all powered by a 2840 mAh battery (21.7 hours talk time, 402 hours standby both on 3G as reported by HTC). The device carries all the usual connections like NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5Ghz), DLNA, HDMI MHL 3.0, 3.5mm headphone jack and mico USB 2.0.
As expected the device also carries HTC BoomSound. They also are offering the device in multiple colors with the big design detail being a dual-tone finish. Basically it is just a polished edge.
At first glance you might think M8. While it certainly does resemble the M8 there are a few changes that are noticeable. The rear camera is no longer the dual camera Ultra pixel with round lenses, and is now a single 20MP camera with a square housing. The front still appears to be the same at first glance. The lack of drastic change will spark a lot of feelings from users across the board. The HTC One M8 design was one of the most loved designs on a smartphone. Apple and Samsung kept with similar designs with minor changes for two or more years between devices. While I was hoping for something new and radical, I can’t say that I am all that displeased with the look of the new M9. The internal hardware certainly seems to be a big bump for the device and I hope that camera performs a bit better than the M8 seemed to.
Anyone out there ready to shell out the Benjamin’s for this one?
