Have you noticed: The Facebook app for Android devours battery life like nothing else

If you have an Android smartphone, and you’re relatively tech conscious, it’s pretty likely that you’ll have the Facebook app for Android on your device. Facebook‘s app has always been a little unusual compared to the other social media apps, but it’s made great strides in recent times to bridge that gap and create a smoother, better experience. Lately, however, I’ve been noticing something pretty weird, which is that my battery life is getting absolutely annihilated on a daily basis, and I realize part of this is probably thanks to the Quad HD display on my LG G3, but my G3 was barely getting over the 6 hour mark most days.

Facebook app for AndroidTo my dismay, when I checked my battery usage menu, Facebook was hogging most of it, despite the fact that I only check it every few hours (I realize Spotify is also there, but unlike Facebook, I was actually using it). This in itself is pretty ironic seeing as the blazing hot Quad HD display that it is being shown on is still using less battery than the Facebook app itself when running in the background. Part of the problem could be that I’m part of the beta program, but if this was a ‘bug’, surely they would have noticed this by now. And I’m not the only one who’s noticed - a study by AVG has pointed out Facebook in the top 5 in three interesting categories, including Overall Performance Impact, Highest Battery Drain, and Highest Data Traffic.

Have you been experiencing this battery drain as well? Let us know in the comments below if you have.
