HTC tablet on hold

Android isn’t the only OS that Google has created, but it’s the only one HTC is focused on. During CES rumors abounded which suggested HTC and Google would be partnering to produce a tablet device running Google’s Chrome OS. The rumored device would have marked a new direction in Google’s close relationship with HTC. Three of the major Google Experience Android devices have been HTC handsets so it made sense that if Google wanted to move a tablet device to market that they would look to HTC for the hardware.

Today HTC announced that they are stepping back away from devices designed to run Chrome OS to focus on the Android platform. While this decision is somewhat disappointing, we think that HTC is correct to focus on Android at this time. The market for tablets just isn’t what the smartphone market will be in 2010 and Androids maturity aas a platform is not matched by Chrome yet.
