Ice Cream Sandwich is, in my opinion, one of the most anticipated Android OS releases to date. It is designed to bridge the gap between tablets and phones. closing the gap between “Tablet Only” apps and making them universal. It is the next logical step in evolution for or beloved platform. Will the newest addition be all that is cracked up to be or will it just make fragmentation worse? That answer lies in what the manufacturers and carriers do with it. After all, if they keep requesting Gingerbread device and failing at making updates to their current line up, it won’t matter what Google does to the overall OS.
The story of how this came about is rather interesting. Apparently someone bought a Nexus S on eBay. When they received said nexus device they were surprised by that they saw on the screen. That’s not Gingerbread. The build number was IRK48 and the kernel was 3.0.1. They quickly surmised that this was actually ICS, not to mention that it says so in the ‘Android Version’ section under about phone. Although it might still be a beta build of the software and not a complete version of what is to come, it is there. You will notice plenty of Gingerbread/Honeycomb babies all over this build. Including a new Google Apps icon that takes you directly to all featured apps made and pre-installed by the kings, Google.
I could give you a full walk through via words about how cool this looks, but rather than waste my time or yours, check out the video below.
