Imation slims up the design of their Link Mobile Express 2-in-1 Micro USB flash drive and gives it a USB 3.0 upgrade

One of my favorite aspects of doing what I do is being able to follow companies and set product lines as the mature. Often times the first year product is a solid concept, but the design and/or functionality could use some work. In this instance Imation took their base 2-in-1 Link Mobile Express micro USB flash drive and made some solid improvements to its size and speeds.

Comparing new mobile USB drive you can see how much smaller they made it. They took away the fun, but clunky, flip cover operations of the drive and gave it a sleek slide action to cover and protect the micro USB plug. If we compare it to a real world item, like a penny, you can see just how ridiculously small it really is.

To boost the speeds of the new Link Mobile Express they upped the drive from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0. When I ran a speed comparison of the two through CrystalDiskMark it is apparent that the speeds of the drive have drastically improved.

I ran a similar test using A1 SD Bench app on the Note 4 to get some basic hard line numbers and it also showed signs of improvements on the mobile front as well.

The new Imation Link Mobile Express drives certainly do fill a niche for those who are stuck with a set amount of internal storage and lack SD support, but who need more storage access on the go. It is easily attached to a key ring for mobility and ease of access. Giving you a quick way to free up space by transferring your videos, photos or documents off your devices storage in a snap. The new Link is launching in Q1 of 2015 and will be offered in three storage sizes; 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The suggested retail price tag pegs the 16GB for $24.95, 32GB for $34.95 and the 64GB for $64.95. I fully expect those prices to be lowered at, or slight after, launch considering there are a number of other options out there that are just as small with USB 3.0 for half the cost like the Ruggedized Stellar Boost XT for instance.
