iPhone or iFail?

Comments from Simon:
I normally tell our writers that this is an Android blog and please don’t post news related to other devices but when Asad submitted this article, I decided to let this go through.  With all the PR going around related to the iPhone issues I though that maybe it was relevant to the Android community and those of you tempted to switch to the iPhone 4.

I’ve been blogging for several years, and I am used to following all the mobile platforms, but as far as I’m concerned, Android is the best and the most promising platform. Before the launch of Android, I used to love the iPhone; but after seeing the features and awesomeness of Android, I dropped the iPhone and picked Android as my life. Recently we saw Apple launching their new iPhone 4. Apple said that this is the best iPhone ever, and I say that it’s the biggest fail ever. Today is the second day of the launch, and there are 2 problems already discovered in this phone. First is the reception problem: if you hold the phone with your left hand by keeping it on the steel band, then you lose the reception, and when people contacted Uncle Steve, he said “avoid holding it like that,”  Most people hold their phones in their left hand so they can use it with their right hand fingers. Apple later announced:

Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your Phone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

I saw some official videos of iPhone 4 in which people are holding the phones in their left hand, again a fail.

Let’s talk about the second problem. The second problem is that the proximity sensors are not functioning properly. For example, if you are using an Android powered device and you call someone then the screen blacks out when you place the phone to your ear, but in iPhone 4 the phone sometimes doesn’t. When your face contacts the surface of the iPhone 4, it ends the current call, silences it, or does something else that you don’t want it to do.

iPhone 4 is breaking records, but when people are faced with this problem, I am sure they are getting mad. What is the advantage of spending $200 on a device that comes with problems? The reason I wrote this article is that I saw many peoples dropping Android for iPhone, and folks I am telling you that this is not a good move. We all know that the looks of the iPhone are very good indeed, it’s a sexy phone, but I think more than hardware, software and a perfect device matter, and you get it on Android. I really want to say that the HTC Aria is better than the iPhone 4, even if it’s not a high-end device like the iPhone 4. It’s a gorgeous, small handset, but the software and features inside it kick the iPhone’s butt. For everyone, I have some advice. Whenever you are planning to buy a new device, don’t buy it on its launch day even if you are dying for it. Wait for a few days when reviews come out and everything is clear, then go for it like a hungry beast. Like after the launch, iPhone 4 showed up with problems, so I am sure that a lot of people who were planning to buy it will drop it.

So what are your thoughts about the iPhone 4?  Leave your comments after watching the video below:
