LG steps into the tablet market with the Optimus Pad LTE

We didn’t see this bad boy running around CES this year. It is quite possible that we missed it, or LG just wasn’t quite ready to show it off yet. Either way, it has been announced today.

The tablet name is sticking true to their list of other devices by using the Optimus name and tossing in Pad and LTE just to make it obvious what it is. The tablet will feature the more comfortable 8.9-inch IPS true HD display with a resolution of 1280 X 768. Under the hood you will find a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. For those of you that like cameras in your tablets, this bad boy boasts an 8MP rear facing camera and a 2MP front facer. All of that fitting into a tablet that weighs only 1.1 pounds and is only approximately .37 inches thin. On the Android OS side of things… It will be running Honeycomb 3.2. LG likes to play it safe with software and devices. Not that it is a bad thing, but we can all only hope that an Ice Cream Sandwich update is already in the works.

Connectivity includes the usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HDMI and DLNA support not to mention built-in 4G LTE radios. To power all that awesomeness you will be glad to know they packed in a 6,800 mAh battery in there too. Don’t get too excited though. The Optimus Pad LTE is set to launch in Korea first with other market to follow shortly after.

LG TO INTRODUCE ITS FIRST LTE TABLET

Expanding LTE Leadership into Tablets to Meet the Needs of Consumers’ Faster Lifestyles

SEOUL, Jan. 18, 2012 – LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its first LTE-capable tablet, the Optimus Pad LTE. Initially launching in Korea, LG has equipped the tablet with both LTE technology and True HD IPS display, the two features that have helped LG differentiate its latest smartphone, Optimus LTE, from the competition.

“With tablets generating five times more traffic than the average smartphone, it’s not a huge jump to assume that tablet users need and want faster connectivity,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “The combination of LG’s LTE technology with the tablet form factor is a clear advantage for consumers who use a tablet as their primary consumption device when on the move.”

Boasting the best-in-class in the tablets, LG Optimus Pad LTE provides the ultimate user environment to enjoy HD multimedia with a 1280 x 720 True HD IPS display and 8 megapixel camera for shooting high-definition video.
