Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha delivered a keynote speech yesterday regarding some of the things that the newly split division will be up to going forward. Â Those are good things to know for those dedicated to Motorola and their devices. Some of the more important parts of the Keynote included information that definitely needed to be confirmed.
- Motorola Mobility will separate with $3.5 billion, no debt and 16,500 patents under its belt
- Yes, they will have 4G devices coming out early next year.
- Yes, they plan to embark in the tablet aspect of the industry with a 7″ and 10″ variation.
- Focus will continue on top-tier smartphones for the U.S. and mid-tier devices internationally.
Jha also made other comments regarding Q1 of 2011 that I found interesting. The company has always struggled in the first quarter of every year and this year will be no different. He states there will be a new “competitive dynamic†to contend with at Verizon. Verizon is the primary carrier of Motorola products, and in my opinion, saved the company with their advertising campaign for the DROID line of devices. What is this “competitive dynamic” that could significantly impact Motorola’s first quarter in such a negative way? The potential release of the iPhone on the Verizon network perhaps.
I believe most OEM’s struggle in Q1 more often than not. Those first three months of the year everyone is struggling to get back on their feet after buying new phones for Christmas. I may not personally be a fan of Motorola or Verizon, however, they have both been major players when it comes to Android’s public exposure.
