Owners of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer have had quite the week. After all was said and done, Asus made good on their promise to roll out Ice Cream Sandwich and even managed to surprise the world by doing so in February. As a new owner of the tablet, I was quite pleased with the performance of Honeycomb. I managed to find myself a pretty awesome custom ROM, called Revolver 3 by GnuFabio, but quickly un-rooted and went back to stock upon hearing that Taiwanese owners of the tablet were receiving ICS that day and users in the US would get their taste the following day.
Long story short, I went back to out-of-the-box stock and woke up to the Android 4.0.3 update the next morning. Of course, in all this insanity, I lost my precious root access and ClockworkMOD Recovery (and my progress on Freeplay, damnit), but gained a tasty new OS in the process — fair trade for me, at least temporarily.
Less than 24 hours later, I decided it had been long enough and it was time to reclaim my tablet. After a quick visit to the XDA Forums, I was pleased to find a handy guide with a quick new root method for Linux and OSX, by rhcp0112345, and a Windows script compiled by chan32167. The root method is simple as can be too. Just head over to the original post for the instructions you’ll need and get that root back!
