New 18.5-inch Android-powered touchscreen desktop unveiled by Motorola

Well look what else Motorola is up to that no one knew about. They just unveiled a new Android-powered desktop PC in China today. The Motorola HMC3260. We can see why they haven’t made much of a stink about it though. It does have a 18.5-inch LED touchscreen though, so that is pretty cool. Too bad the resolution is only 1366 x 768. The rest of the specs aim more for last year though. Sporting Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of on board storage.

Pricing and availability of this desktop Android product is still unannounced but with yesteryear specs and Android OS (granted, many devices still haven’t been updated to ICS either), we don’t see it selling for a very high price tag. Plenty of people have switched over to tablets and devices like the ASUS Transformer Prime line with keyboard docks. An 18.5-inch screen would be a pretty nice addition for presentations and gaming if done right. This isn’t the one to do it with though.

Would you be inclined to pick up a desktop style Android based PC if it had, say the specs of the Note II or Prime? Would it be more attractive if it was a tablet that could be docked to a stand? It is an interesting concept. The potential is there, but we don’t think the technology or user base is quite ready for something like this.
