[New Game] Freak Tower, your own tower full of freaks and Monsters

We all know about the wonderful tower building games like Mega Mall Story from Kairosoft. You build up your mall, you sell things and see how awesome you can make it. Then you have tower defense games like Fieldrunners 2 and Jelly Defense. Why the reference to other games? I think it is a bit important to think about before I dive into a brief look at a new game called Freak Tower from GungHo Online Entertainment.

The name should give you enough to go on to at least want to try it out. The basic are this, you are the owner of a run down dirty lot in a seedy part of town. You need to build various floors to rent out to the “Freaks” and offer them up some amenities, like hair salons and burger joints. You do the typical tower building stuff, get people to move in, get them a job, stock the shelves, earn coins and build new floors. Then you add in the extra seedy side of the city you live in, the monsters. Yes, what would a good freak game be without some good old monsters to mess up your day. This is where the tower defense side of the game comes into play.

Once you reach the 10th floor construction, your seedy competition will start to send over monsters to mess up your building. You can also go monster hunting to gain some level ups on your floors and a few other perks. It is pretty fun to see what the monsters weaknesses are so you can focus your freaks floors on annihilation. Your weapons, whatever each floor has to offer. The piano studio tosses little keyboards and the burger joint throws burgers. It gets better though, you have a mechanical arm on the rooftop that lets you drop bombs, poison, spider webs and flower pots.

To make things even a little bit more interesting, you have to pull the slot machine at the lower level to get freaks to come to your building. You build up a Lucky Time meter at the top left that gives you special freaks that do things. For instance, a handyman will complete your current floor for you. The stock man will stock up whatever you are restocking ect. You get 10 minutes per day of Lucky Time. So pull that lever like a freak to try and snag a special visitor.

To give Freak Tower a little more flare, you can also customize each one of your freaks. Change out their heads, bodies, color, accessories and weapons. Not that the weapons do any bit of good, but it is fun to see a clown with a bloody bat.

Then you move on to the diamonds. Yes, there are inapp purchases. You can earn some diamonds as you play, but buying them is easier. You can use the diamonds to complete stocking a floor faster, finish building a floor faster, buy additional heads and customizing items for your freaks and upgrade your claw and the weapons it drops. All of which are kind of important really. Then of course you have the basement where you keep your personal pets. I haven’t quite made it to the 15th floor yet to see what those do, but I would imagine they will help out your monster fighting.

Overall, the graphics are fun and freakish. The game plays well and keeps you busy and entertained for extended periods of time, especially once you get a few floors under your belt. The controls are simple scrolling up and down the tower and tapping on the various floors, items and slot machine. I think it is a fun twist on two game play styles that should be good for any casual gamer out there. If you want to give it a go, just hit up the link below to pick it up, it is free after all.
