The whole thing is based primarily on the video-compression software covered in Motorola’s patents that are used in the Xbox and in Windows 7. Last week the ITC also ruled the Microsoft infringed on a number of Motorola patents pertaining to video-compression and wireless technology as well. It doesn’t stop there though, the EU has also started investigations on Motorola and how much they are charging competitors for licenses to their software.
What makes the whole thing a little funnier is that Microsoft was already prepared to lose the battle today. They started moving “its regional software distribution centre to the Netherlands from Germany in anticipation.â€
