Oppo F1 breaks cover with all-metal body and a focus on selfies

You may recall that last week there was a hilariously weird ad from Oppo that was designed to tease the announcement of its new F-series smartphone. Well, that phone, the Oppo F1, has now been made official, kind of, with a Vietnamese retailer putting up a listing for the smartphone. Sure enough, the device boasts an aluminium unibody and a 5-inch, 720p display – however, it’s main selling point is its front-facing camera which is a relatively normal 8MP but is accompanied by various software which can be used to improve the quality of your selfies.

The rest of the specifications are very mid-range – Snapdragon 616 processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. The Oppo F1 is powered by a 2,500mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 with the usual Oppo-customized user interface, ColorOS 2.1. According to the listing, the Oppo F1 costs around $290 USD, but whether that pricing carries over to other regions is anyone’s guess, though it’s safe to say the device sits squarely in the mid-range market. The device officially launches on January 21st so be ready if you’re liking what you hear.
