Samsung Announces It Is Making 3GB LPDDR3 RAM For Smartphones

samsungHot on the heels of their new Exynos 5 Octa processor announcement, Samsung has announced it will begin the world’s first mass production of 3GB RAM for smartphones. The 3GB LPDDR3 DRAM chip uses six 20-nanometer chips, stacked in two piles measuring just 0.8mm high. This will enable smartphones to become even thinner, and drive data speeds of up to 2,133Mbps per pin. In the words of Samsung Executive Vice President of Memory Sales & Marketing, Young-Hyun Jun:

samsungThis could mean that this new memory chip could be seen as early as when the Galaxy Note 3 releases later this year, and definitely in the Galaxy S follow up flagship. Samsung appears to have a lot of tricks up its sleeve, and this probably isn’t the last surprise tech we’ll see from Samsung in the coming weeks.

Smartphone technology is definitely developing in leaps and bounds of late; soon, we really will have the power of a fully-fledged computer in the palm of our hand. Who else is excited about the prospects of these technological advances? I know I am. Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
