Samsung Epic 4G finally gets Gingerbread update, better late than never I Suppose

The Samsung Galaxy S line has had nothing but bad press surrounding Gingerbread updates. It caused quite a stir in the Android world. It should have hit all devices a long time ago. For what ever reason, be it the carriers decision or Samsung, it just never happened. If you haven’t already rooted your device and moved yourself to Gingerbread anyways, then you will be happy to hear that the Epic 4G, Sprints version of the Galaxy S, is now receiving an update, finally. Take a look at what you can expect from the update –

  • Upgrade of the Google OS from Froyo to Gingerbread (Android 2.3)
  • Audible Sprint AIRAVEâ„¢ notifications when answering call
  • SMS messages sent without area code
  • PRL and Profile update
  • EAS (Exchange Activesync) email displaying HTML
  • Bluetooth headset sound improvements
  • Fully visible date on device lock screen

A few various fixes have been added in and you will finally move up to Gingerbread, officially. You can head into settings>About Phone> System Updates to see if you can prompt the download yourself, or just keep impatiently waiting.

Alternatively, you can snag the manual update below and completely skip the waiting process.

  1. Download the update from Google’s servers.
  2. Rename to update.zip
  3. Place on root directory of sdcard
  4. Boot into stock recovery (Vol Down+Camera+Power while device is off)
  5. Select install update.zip
  6. Boot into GB !
