Settling again: OnePlus One StyleSwap covers cancelled, mentions OnePlus 2

OnePlus One StyleSwap coversOnePlus seems to be running from one failed marketing ploy to another. This time, it is going to affect some of their existing customers after OnePlus announced it is cancelling its run of OnePlus One StyleSwap covers. The StyleSwap covers were meant to include exotic build materials, like bamboo, but OnePlus claims it has run into fundamental design issues, particularly with the interaction of the back cover and the battery, that is forcing them to cancel the StyleSwap covers in their entirety. For those that are particularly zealous about getting a StyleSwap case, OnePlus does have a small number which it intends to sell – hopefully not through a invite style system this time.

OnePlus themselves are recognizing fault for this oversight, stopping short of settling – which it invariably is – and calling it “[making] complicated decisions”. Interestingly, the post from OnePlus mentions that they won’t be making the same mistake for the “OnePlus 2“, presumably a reference to the OnePlus One’s successor. Many of us would have expected there to be a successor regardless, but OnePlus has previously said they are wholly focussed on the OnePlus One – perhaps they have started looking forward to their next device and undoing the issues of their maiden release.

What do you think about OnePlus’ backflip on the OnePlus One StyleSwap covers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
