Not that long ago Sharp put out an Android device that boldly changed the design of what we typically see in the modern-day. The Sharp Aquos Crystal caught a lot of eyes for its sleek bezeless design and its curious lack of an ear piece on the front. The current Aquos Crystal made a debut through SoftBank owned Sprint and subsequently Boost Mobile with plans for Virgin Mobile as well. Those are all Sprint owned, or, rather SoftBank owned at this point. It gained a fair amount of media attention and now it looks like Sharp is ready to put out something a bit more competitive with the Sharp Aquos Crystal X.
As you can see, the Sharp Aquos Crystal X looks just like the Aquos Crystal with the bezeless screen on three sides, with the front  facing camera and sensors on the bottom portion of the device. Much of the design carries over from the mid-tier device, except for the hardware and size. The Aquos Crystal X moves up a little from the 5-inch screen to a larger 5.5-inch panel. Sharp also beefed up the resolution to 1080 x 1920. The remaining internal specs have also received an overhaul as the Crystal X packs in a Qualcomm quad-core 2.3 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and  13 MP camera. It is listed with a 1.2MP camera, which is the same as the current Aquos Crystal, but it is possible that there is some software changes or module swaps to it from its predecessor. On the power side of things, the larger, and more powerful Crystal X packs a 2,610 mAh battery and the device is loaded with Android 4.4.4 out of the box.
You will find the same Harman Kardon sound enhancement inclusions as well as that nifty attribute of the whole screen being your earpiece during calls.
With out the need for the larger bezels found on many of the devices in its size class you will find that the Sharp Aquos Crystal X comes in a little smaller than most. Officially measuring in at 139 x 73 x 11 mm. however, it isn’t as thin as others though. As a comparison, the LG G3 is also a 5.5-inch device, but measures in at 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm.
The release details come straight out of Japan and don’t offer up any pricing details nor any details on a launch of the device in the states. I did like the previous Aquos Crystal that Sprint and Boost Mobile have and had hoped that Sharp would put a little effort into something that could compete in today’s market of high-end devices. However, I am not so sure a variant of this will make it overseas for US consumers to get their hands on. We will have to wait and see.
Would any of you be more apt to look at this device now that the specs have been boosted up considerably?
