Sprint Not Pleased with HTC’s Evo Shortage

Device shortages can cause a lot of unexpected problems for wireless networks and Sprint has fallen victim. Sprint’s HTC Evo was arguably the most highly anticipated device coming in 2010 and just after the Evo launched in early June, Sprint was confident and determined to stake their claim as a leading wireless network. Shortly after the Evo launch, HTC began to slow down manufacturing the device due to a shortage of AMOLED displays from Samsung and the domino effect had begun.

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse is not pleased with HTC and why should he be? HTC has switched to the Sony TFT LCD display, but devices are not coming fast enough. Hesse believed that with the HTC Evo on the Sprint network, Sprint would have a head start. T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network has already started to roll out and is faster than Sprint’s 4G and followed by AT&T and Verizon’s LTE networks coming early next year, Sprint will again be left in the dust with their slower WiMax.
