Earlier today Sprint started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. T-Mobile is also in the process of rolling out Lollipop, but interestingly enough it is starting with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I am sure that will spark some hate and some love for T-Mobile users with Note 3’s and Note 4’s. The update will move your Note 3 to software version N900TUVUFOB6 and weighs in just over 1GB. It brings the Lollipop fun like lockscreen notifications and Material Design animations and all wonderful stuff. T-Mobile also lists Wi-Fi 2.0 as being part of the new features added to the update. Steve Livingston over at Lightreading.com goes over the technical details of what that means. At least, I think that is what it all means.
At a high level, the concept of WiFi 2.0 is simple: It’s about delivering a seamless, secure, and globally robust WiFi roaming experience that is similar to that experienced by consumers when roaming on cellular networks.
You can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > About Device > Software Update. Be sure you have well over 50% battery life, Wi-Fi available and some time to kill waiting for it to download and install. If you aren’t keen on the over-the-air style update you can also hook your phone up to your PC and install it via Samsung Kies.
Hopefully this means that they will also be releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Note 4 relatively soon. We shall see what transpires.
