Upcoming Galaxy devices to support multiple wireless charging standards on-board

Wireless charging isn’t some newfangled ability. The Nexus line has had it built-in for a while and there are plenty of cases, kits and pads out in the market to give the ability to your current devices. Patriot has a pretty slick set-up with Fuel iON for various Galaxy devices and iPhone. While very useful and functional, they aren’t tied to the standards that are being created by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC/Qi), the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), which are the three big groups in the movement and Samsung happens to belong to all of them. It would now seem that Samsung is finally stepping up to the plate after many years of slowly making accessories like back covers and pads.

In a blog post on Samsung Tomorrow they let it be known that 2015 will be the landmark year for wireless charging technology deployment and it would seem that the Galaxy S6 should be the one leading the, pardon the pun, charge. Last year components were released that supported multiple standards on a single chip and Samsung has been working to make them thinner and cheaper to make.

With our upcoming Galaxy smartphones, users will be able to enter a new wireless world like never before.

This means that you won’t have to worry which charging dock or pad you like best, the device will most likely be compatible and charge. The post doesn’t make note of anything specific, but it is feasible that the Galaxy S6 could be the first in a wave of Galaxy devices to pack the newer chips to allow for this. We will have to wait and see what Samsung has to say on the matter when they make the device official on March 1st.
