Verizon formally announces Device Payment Plans starting April 21st

Verizon Wireless
Seems Verizon is starting to see the light and is making a few slight alterations to how customers can upgrade their devices. While I am not seeing anything super fabulous like T-Mobile just did, it’s a start, Especially coming from the largest, and arguably the most expensive, carrier in the U.S. The main changes include the removal of the 20 month early upgrade option. Now you have to wait the full 24 month, 2-year agreement cycle before you are eligible for a discount. That is a bit disturbing.

While I can already see your faces cringing with disapproval of that change, there is one more change that might put at least a small smile on your face. Beginning April 21st, you will have the ability to buy a device at full price. Nothing new there, but “some devices” will be available for customers to purchase through the “Verizon Wireless Device Payment Plan.” They fail to mention which ones and how the payment plans would look. We are hearing you get 12 months to pay it off. So a $600 phone will run you an extra $50 a month on your bill, assuming they ask for just a direct monthly split down. Guess we will have to wait a little longer for the official details to roll out.

Either way, it is nice to see another option rolling out to customers on another carrier. No one really likes to wait 2 years, nor do they like to shell out rent for a new device.
