CyanogenMod 7 has made its way to an interesting “new” device. Remember the HTC Universal? If not, here’s a quick refresher for you — the phone was originally released almost seven years ago, back in 2005. It was the world’s first 3G device to boast a VGA 3.5″ pivoting screen and it originally came sporting Windows Mobile 5.0. Talk about a trip down memory lane, right? This phone is so old, Zack Morris traded in his 8 pound Motorola phone for it. OK, maybe not that old, but you get my point.
notime2d8, and a few other folks from XDA, managed to make magic happen and revive the ancient phone by gracing it with the Android OS and a heapin’ helpin’ of CM7. Now, if that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is. It’s important to note that this only works for Universals with 128Mb (sorry, 64Mb-owners). The only things noted as not working are the WiFi and modem/phone functions; otherwise everything is said to be running smoothly.

New Test Build…I just uploaded a new test image for the 128mb users. It’s the latest cm7 and only needs for the the files to be placed on the root of your memory card. It works ok after it settles and i usually have 51mb of ram free with ~9 to 12mb being used by settings so maybe 63mb free at idle with nothing running.
Everythings working except for the wifi and the modem/phone functions.
The file “sdboot.zip†contains all of the files that need to be placed on the root of your memory card and the folder “sdcard†has each of the individual files.
If you’ve still got one of these old relics packed away somewhere, now is the time to dig it out and head over to the ROM post. That’s where you’ll find everything you need to get started.
