Xiaomi, one of the largest Chinese smartphone brand, has launched a variety of products including the Mi TV, Mi Drone, and Yi action camera. Now, the company has signed a patent deal with Microsoft. Xiaomi’s product range includes the Mi Note Pro, Mi Note, Mi 5, Redmi Note 3, Mi TV, Mi Band, and other accessories. Xiaomi is acquiring 1,500 patents from Microsoft and will pre-load Microsoft Office and Skype apps on its Android smartphones and tablets.
Beginning in September 2016, Xiaomi’s devices – include the Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi 4s, Redmi Note 3 and the Redmi 3 – will come pre-installed with the Microsoft apps. As part of the agreement, tens of millions of consumers and business customers in China, India and around the world will have new ways to work, collaborate and communicate. The companies’ new collaboration also includes a cross-license and patent transfer agreement.
Commenting on the partnership, Xiang Wang, senior vice president at Xiaomi, said:
