While we aren’t exactly fans of the hastily crammed on AT&T logo on the AT&T Nexus 6, a genuine malady has befallen the device after it was reported that all AT&T stores have been requested to return their Nexus 6‘s due to a software bug. The bug apparently only affects the initial batches of devices, but does render the device inoperable after the device fails to respond when powered on, so AT&T is taking every precaution, ordering all Nexus 6 stock to be returned with new shipments arriving shortly. This will obviously mean a short delay for AT&T customers waiting for the Nexus 6, but in the end, it’s better to have a functioning device rather than a $649 paperweight.
Which brings us to how this is even possible. We haven’t heard that any other Nexus 6 devices, stock or carrier, that have this issue, so we’re pretty confident it is a AT&T Nexus 6 only issue, but it’s surprising that such a bug wouldn’t have been picked up after the device as assembled. That said, it doesn’t appear to be that widespread, but if you do have an AT&T Nexus 6 and are seeing these issues, you better get that thing swapped out.
